Go to: http://www.blm.gov/style/medialib/blm/nifc/training/job_aid/pdfs.Par.13105.File.dat/Chap2.pdf The tables presented list training (not all-inclusive) that BLM employees are required to, or are suggested to, take depending on BLM policy and mission.
There have been some changes made in the First Aid requirements this year. We will be offering both Medic First Aid as we have the past 4 years (4 hours) and the newly developed First Aid with Wilderness Protocols (FAWP,8+ Hours). If your current First Aid Certification (regardless of type) is still valid through this year you will not be required to take any class this year. What kind of first aid class do I need to take? Ask yourself these questions: Am I a current qualified Wilderness First Responder/EMT/or Paramedic? When in the field, there is always a qualified EMT nearby in my group? (e.g. IHC or Type 2 crew) When in the field, there is always: an incident medical unit/a medical facility/an ambulance/or staffed fire station within 10 minutes of where I'm working? If you answered "Yes" to #1 you don't need any first aid class. If you only answered "Yes" to #2 or #3, you need the 4-hour Medic-1st Aid w/CPR&AED class to abide by Bureau mandatory training policy (recurrency cycle is every 2 years). If you could not answer "Yes" to any of these three questions and you do work in the field, you need the 8-hour First Aid with Wilderness Protocols (FAWP) class which includes CPR&AED to comply with BLM Alaska's first aid training requirements. If you have any questions regarding the course content or need clarification on which course you should be taking, please contact Don Bergstrand at 356-5868.
The Nom Form is for individual nominations to Lower '48 sessions. The AK Nom Form is for use within Alaska for multiple nominations to a session. If you are unsure which form to use, contact your Training Officer.
