Course Description:

This 3-day course is designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum.  The course prepares participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services through pre- and post-incident crisis education.  Students will also learn about other significant support services and crisis intervention for individuals and groups, including demobilization after large-scale traumatic incidents, small group defusing, and group intervention known as Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).  The need for appropriate follow-up services and referrals when necessary is also described.

Objectives:

This Basic CISM course specifically prepares participants to provide post-traumatic event interventions, and include but are not limited to the following:

  • Crisis Assessment
  • Individual Crisis Intervention
  • Large Group Intervention (Demobilization, Crisis Management Briefing)
  • Small Group Crisis Interventions (Defusing, Critical Incidetn Stress Debriefing (CISD
  • Family Support Services
  • Significant Other Support Services
  • Follow-up Services
  • Referral Services

Target Group:

  • Wildland fire and all-hazard responders who are interested in being involved with assisting others during traumatic events
  • Individuals and/or managers interested in crisis intervention techniques   
  • Individuals who have experience in individual/family counseling and/or critical incident management
  • Line officers, managers and/or supervisory personnel
