Course Description:
Students will learn how to set up USFS R8-oriented fire effects monitoring programs including how to: determine plot locations, protocols and collection of data; enter information into a software program; and analyze data for feedback to managers.
Objectives:
Training will consist of:
¨ One Field Day – Focus on installation and collection of data from a rectangular plot, using FMH and U. S. Forest Service protocols. Data collected will include tree, shrub, and understory vegetation layers, repeat photography and Brown’s transects.
¨ 2 Classroom Days – Learning FFI software which will include entering and analyzing data (including data collected from the previous day).

FFI is an interagency fire effects monitoring software package (http://frames.nbii.gov/ffi). The U. S. Forest service, Region 8 fire effects monitoring program is based on FMH protocols (http://www.nps.gov/fire/fire/fir_eco_mon_fmh.cfm) .
