Course Description:
The Alaska Engine Academy is an intense 50-hour course designed to expose the students to all aspects of Wildland engine operations with an emphasis on practical application and testing. A passing grade will be 80% or higher. Points will be accumulated from a combination of both written and practical tests and students can be expected to spend after-hours studying for upcoming tests. Included in the curriculum is certification as an Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator II (CEVOII) and course credit for S-211 and ENOP.
Objectives:
Course Objectives will be divided into 3 skill set areas:
I. Maintenance (Vehicle & Pump)
Preventative maintenance inspections; Trouble shooting mechanical problems; Standard care & maintenacne; Air brakes; Operator's responsibilities.
II. Driving
Operating fire engines on highways, rural, urban and unimproved roads; Physical laws/forces affecting a moving vehicle; Fire engine driving techniques & defensive driving; State Statutes & legal aspects.
III. Pumping
Pump theory; Care & maintenance of pumping equipment; Trouble shooting & pumping operations.
Target Group:
Wildland Fire Resource Technicians, Engine Operators and Engine Bosses.
Prerequisites:
Wildland Fire Resource Technician and other Engine Operators.
