RX301 - Prescribed Fire Implementation

Course Description:

Prescribed Fire Implementation , RX301, is designed to introduce the student to the tools and techniques used to perform in the role of a Prescribed Fire Burn Boss.

The course material is based on the tasks found in the Position Task Book for Prescribed Fire Burn Boss. It leads the students through the duties and responsibilities associated with the position of the Prescribed Fire Burn Boss including evaluation and implementation of a prescribed fire plan.

Objectives:

Provide the student with the knowledge and practical experience needed to successfullly review a prescribed fire burn plan for technical accuracy and implement a prescribed burn.

Target Group:

Personnel desiring to become qualified as a prescribed fire burn boss type 2 (RXB2).

Minimum Instructor Qualifications:

It is preferred that the lead instructor be a qualified prescribed fire burn boss type 1 (RXB1). Unit instructors must be qualified as prescribed fire burn boss type 2 (RXB2). Adjunct instructors may be utlitized to provide limited instruction in specialized knowledge and skills at the discretion of the lead instructor. They must be experienced, proficient, and knowledgeable of current issues in their field of expertise. Also see NWCG Instructor Qualifications at the beginning of this Guide.

Prerequisites:

Qualified as a firing boss (FIRB)
Qualified as an incident commander type 4 (ICT4)
Introduction to Fire Behavior Calculations (S-390)
Proficient in the use of BehavePlus
Successful completion of the pre-course work

It is recommended that you complete RX-341 prior to taking RX-301 unless you are proficient at Prescribed Fire Burn Plan Preparation as RX-301 builds on knowledge learned during RX-341.
