NMWFRB - Advanced Wildland Fire Management

Course Description:

This Geographic Area course is designed to provide participants a basic understanding of the implementation process for planned and unplanned fires to accomplish resource benefits. Examples and information come from experiences of all wildland agencies in relation to resource management needs and constraints. A variety of case studies and lessons will cover resource management, safety, national Wildland Fire Management teams and modules, fire ecology and planning, critical climatic and weather situations, public education/awareness, and individual/group exercises.

This course provides the skills required of a Strategic Operational Planner (SOPL) but currently not identified in the position requirements.

Objectives:

Participants will understand the process and need to implement complete Managing for resouce benefits planning documents through reviewing philosophy, goals and requirements necessary to successfully implement managing for resource benefits activities in support of resource and wilderness management goals, as well as complex fire activities in support of larger scale resource and management goals.

Target Group:

Fire Management personnel, Line Officers, wilderness management personnel, and other personnel involved in the management of wildland fires to accomplish resource benefits.

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites but sugguested training is recommended:

  1. RX-310 (formally RX-340), Introduction to Fire Effects or course-work equivalent.
  2. M-580, Fire in Ecosystem Management.
